Day off in Chicago

What a great city to have a day off. We've been lucky with the weather. David Hudson, Dan Landrum and I have been enjoying the deep crust Pizza's in Chicago. Just amazing!
During this leg of the tour I met up with 3 special people that I hadn't seen in 25 years, Raja Jalaldeen and Brian Feltman who I got to see in Toronto and Clarence Corea who I had lunch with in DC. Clarence not only is he a fine musician, but he is also a Chef by profession. He and his wife Darlene invited me to there home and treated me to a home cooked SriLankan meal that was off the hook! Some of the dishes were cooked in clay pots and tasted like heaven! Beef curry on the bone, Shrimp curry ,dhal, pappadam and misc vegetables. I invited them to the show that evening and we got to hang for a minute before we got on the bus and headed for michigan.
Clarence used to play for a band called the Junior rhythmiers in the 70's and I remember seeing them playing on stage and used to dream of being able to do that one day! They were an inspiration to me growing up in Colombo and I am most grateful to all the fine musicians in Colombo that were encouraging and gave me a helping hand in growing and becoming a better musician. In my next letter I want to acknowledge a musician that gave so much of his time and energy to help me. His name is Nihal Chandraratne.
